The Social Action Committee presents frequent forums on diverse social and environmental topics.
The Facilities (formerly called BELL) Committee defines the present and future building and space
needs of the WVUU congregation and determines future equipment needs, making recommendations for
equipment purchases. The committee also identifies and tracks all property belonging
to the WVUU church, and arranges for care and maintenance of the grounds.
WVUU members and friends meet for breakfast on the 1st Friday of every month at 9:00am.
The Bridge group meets once a month to hone their card-playing skills and socialize with other bridge players.
The Canvassing Committee is formed from time to time as fund raisers and pledge drives begin.
The Caring Committee is responsible for taking action in times of illness, death, or when other problems arise with one of our congregants.
All singers are welcome in the WVUU choir! Come join us! Rehearsals are currently happening 2-3 times a month. We meet at church, rehearse songs for Sunday Services and sing through newly acquired music.
Circle Suppers are scheduled in different members' homes the 2nd Saturday of
each month. They combine the age-old custom of breaking bread with the opportunity
to better know members and friends of our Church.
Guests should list their names on a sign-up sheet at church; or they can contact
the Circle Suppers coordinator. The coordinator then advises the current host/-ess
how many guests to expect.
The host will contact all guests, each of whom contributes a dish to share and
lets them know when the festivities start....and the evening takes care of itself.
The Finance Committee is responsible for composing the yearly budget, managing
fund raisers and managing the church's funds. It's composed of the Facilities chair,
Treasurer, and Finance Chair.
Great fun for families, couples and singles! Game Night is sponsored by the Membership
committee, it is held four times a year (see your newsletter for news of the next
scheduled Game Night). We have pot-luck snacks and everyone brings their
favorite games. We might have Group Therapy at one table, Scrabble at a 2nd,
and Chutes and Ladders at a 3rd.
The Hospitality committee provides coffee and other refreshments for the fellowship
hour after church service. It also coordinates potlucks and helps in other activities
if refreshments are needed.
Providing general information about the WVUU church to the public is done unofficially
by several people in our congregation. Some answer the church's phone, others answer
email inquiries and yet others answer questions from new visitors.
This committee is in charge of caring for WVUUC's plants and landscape.
The Membership committee is an open committee: All members and friends of the
church automatically belong.
The purpose of the committee is to turn guests into friends and friends into members.
In addition, we try to find ways to encourage members to stay active with our
church. Some of our tasks and programs include:
This committee is also responsible for New Member Sunday, Directory of Members,
WVUU e-mail lists, name tags, and World Subscriptions.
The Nominating committee proposes future candidates for church board and committee
chair positions.
The term for church board and committee chair positions is 2 years and members
may serve for two terms. When the members currently holding the positions have
completed their term and do not wish to continue serving in that capacity, the
Nominating committee finds other people to take their place.
Members of the Nominating committee members serve for three years and their
terms are staggered, so that only one member's term is completed at any one time.
All parents (and some grandparents, and other folks who like kids, too) are involved in working with this committee. Volunteers teach Sunday school classes, care for pre-school kids, plan family potlucks, camping trips, swimming parties and other events. Committee Chair: Kathy Abramowitz
The Sunday Services Committee meets on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at members' homes.
It is responsible for scheduling speakers and programs,
moderating worship services, arranging for music, producing the order of service,
decorating the altar and any other functions needed to produce a variety of meaningful,
inspiring Worship Services.
The committee works with the congregation toward a consensus as to what approaches
to worship are most fully expressive of the purpose and goals of our Church.
The committee cooperates with the minister in scheduling the services the minister
will conduct and provides a variety of support services for these meetings.
