Some of the divisions appear a bit large, particularly those that include planted areas outside-the-wall. Also Patch-I has been divided into Patch I and Patch I-1: "I" is the planted area around the Sanctuary; "I-1" is the Sanctuary, itself, to include housekeeping not on the regular schedule (carpet spotting, window cleaning, etc.).

Does anyone have a Frame (18" X 24") that could be loaned to WVUU Church to frame a donated piece of art?

I think black metal would look best, but others would probably look okay as well.

Please email or call me?

Eagle Club's Circle of Life

All of life is a circle. We are born, we grow up, we have jobs and care for children, we grow older, and someday our lives will be over. Tristan, Ethan, Tommy and Zane show us the totem poles they made to accompany their circle of life poster.

Earlier in January, we explored the concept of God in all Beings of the Earth and Sky.

We also thought about the many different paths we may take to find God and how we can make good things happen.

The older kids have been talking about views people had on the origins of animal species before Darwin. They have also been looking at popular concepts of God in Europe and America during the 1700s and early 1800s.

Coming in February

Chinese New Year Celebration - Feb 5th. Be prepared for the visit of a most excellent dragon and try out (or show off) your skill with chopsticks after church.

Also - we will be holding a
World Hunger Dinner at the church on the evening of Feb. 18th.  Look for more information on another page in this newsletter.

Dylan Bailey points out a critical feature in a jigsaw puzzle he and the other kids put together during Crafts on the Porch.

World Hunger Dinner

The United Nations estimates that more than 850 million people in the world experience chronic hunger. Join us on the evening of Feb. 18th for this very special dinner in which we will decide by lottery who among us will eat well…and who will not. To sign up for this dinner, call Kathy A. at 623-915-2678. A donation for the Westside Food Bank will be taken at the door.

Christian looks at some of the food church members brought for the food drive. He and 18 other parents, kids and Sunday school teachers from our church and the Surprise church spent a morning bagging grapefruit at the Westside Food Bank.

Food As Prayer

This month, we collected 90 pounds of food for the Westside Food Bank. Feb 19th is our next collection day. Let's concentrate on fruit this month. If you have citrus in good condition, bring a couple of bags or small boxes of it. If you don't have citrus, bring canned fruit.

This Church provides a safe place to celebrate diversity, draw inspiration for our lives, foster social and environmental justice, and compassionately support each other in our spiritual searches.

We currently have 80 members and many more friends.

Our Sunday Services begin at 10:30 AM followed by a coffee house style social hour and light lunch.

February 5, 2006  Speaker:  William Hart "Ever Since Eve, At Least"  Which religion officially
labeled women "An inescapable punishment" and "A necessary evil?" You needn't go looking for obscure creeds in exotic places -- it was the Christian church. Bill Hart, Valley resident and author of
Evil, A Primer: The History of a Bad Idea from Beelzebub to Bin Laden will talk about how men throughout Western history have relentlessly demonized women, and how vestiges of that deeply ingrained practice remain very much alive today.

February 12, 2006 Speaker:  Kathryn Sheffield "America has experienced several great awakenings.  Some believe today we are in yet another. What has been the role of these awakenings in American history and politics and what does it mean for our future?

Sunday, February 19, 2007  UU Speaker, singer, and songwriter Gwendy Joysen.  "The Power of Musical Expression."   We are happy to welcome former members, Gwendy and Dee Joysen!  Gwendy is a UU singer, songwriter and speaker, promoting human rights, conscious living and the importance of music.  She is touring UU churches speaking and singing to raise awareness of the role music can play in our spiritual community. Come and enjoy a morning of beautiful music. Gwendy's CD, "Sacred", will be available.

Sunday February 26, 2006 Speaker: Rev. Adam Robersmith "The Price of Fear"  It seems that so much of current American culture is based in fear--fear of germs, of weapons, of other people, of sugar, even of the culture itself.   This current of fear doesn't just make us nervous, it changes our entire lives. We'll look at how fear destroys communities and our own well-being.
