This month, because so many of you are away, I am reporting to you about a few projects with which your church has been involved. On Saturday July 9th we sponsored, along with Mead & Associates Law Firm, a day to enact your Living Will. From 10A.M. to 3P.M. We had 16 volunteers complete with Attorneys and Notaries to assist the people. It was advertised in 3 Newspapers, our order of service and Newsletter, and extensively on the Internet. There were 10 "Burma Shave " type signs on 59th Ave.. There were 2, two sided signs with attention getting pinwheels on our property on Cholla St. plus 1 covering our A frame sign by the door. There was even food available. Within an hour and a half our traffic flow virtually stopped. All our street signs had disappeared. Thirteen people did take advantage of our offer. The event earned $325.00 for both Hospice of the Valley and WVUU Church, |

We plan to repeat the event in the Fall when it is cool enough to guard our signs. The following Saturday, July 16th Church members & friends provided a Memorial Service for Judy Walker, one of our founding members. Judy died in May and wished her ashes to be buried in our garden under the tree she had purchased in memory of her son Jeff. Rev John LeRoy conducted the Words of Intention, Jo Cleland played 3 musical pieces, eulogys we given by her daughter Mary Folley and many friends including Dorothy Ward, Lucy Trissel, Cathryn Bauer, Phyllis Kangas, and Jim Reay. Also a cousin from California. Following committal refreshments were provided. They included her favorite candy, Snickers. Purple and violet colors were used throughout, remembering her favorite colors. (Continued on page 5) |
