We have an excellent year planned for kids and their families, starting with a swimming party and pot luck on August 13th (see separate article).

On September 10th and 11th, we will kick off our Sunday school year with a camping trip to Munds Park. We’ll roast hot dogs and learn about the constellations and take nature hikes and listen to stories about the creation of the earth. For non-camping families who wish to attend, we can make arrangements for a block of rooms at the hotel across the street.

The Fledgling Club (Kindergarten – Second Grade) is growing up and changing their name to the Eagles. This year, the Eagles will be studying “Stories about God”, a curriculum written my Mary Ann Moore. Some of the topics we will cover include: One Great Web of Life, Being with God in Prayer, God is like the Mother of Us All, God Comes to Us in our Dreams, and God Wants Justice. We will be listening to stories and making kaleidoscopes and muffins and murals and masks.

Our older grade school kids, grades three – seven, need a name. We’ll have to work on that. This year, these kids will be studying Our Place in the Universe. We’ll begin by looking at a variety of cosmologies proposed by ancient people. We’ll talk about the changes that came to our understanding of the universe with the invention of the telescope and microscope. We’ll imagine the courage it took to propose new ways of looking at the cosmos. We’ll study Galileo and Darwin and Mendel and talk about how their finding changed the way we imagined God. We’ll be doing lots of activities and experiments in this class.

Older kids will meet in the RE building from 9:30 – 10:20. Eagles will meet during the sermon, while the older kids are doing crafts on the porch.

We also plan to have monthly events for families.
