Selection of a Team The first Team should be selected by the Director in conjunction with the minister. These individuals will be invited to join the team based on their history of being caring, compassionate individuals: some with a background in mental health. There should be approximately seven or eight people, preferably men and women who are mostly retired. All will participate in an hour-long interview. We will be looking for people who are willing to make a two-year commitment, able to respect confidentiality, have some understanding of what they will be doing and have the potential to be good listeners and will work with others on a team.

Training of a Team Each Team has approximately 20 hours training before starting to work. One timeline may be to select a new team in the fall, start training the first of the year and start to work the first of May. Types of training might come from nearby Unitarian Ministers with expertise in Pastoral Care. Hospice care training is another source of training. When the first Team is trained, we should be able to write a mission statement. Next month, some thoughts about a mission statement. - Barbara Kovach |
