The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Phoenix (UUCP) is bringing back the popular Thursday Lecture Series. The theme of this series is “Moral Values/Many Voices: Progressive Religion in the Public Arena.” There was a lot of talk about moral values during the recent election. Many people have since commented how that phrase became a narrowly-defined code word denoting particular ideas about particular issues. The goal of this series is to broaden the scope of that discussion by inviting speakers representing differing viewpoints to have thoughtful, respectful interaction between themselves and the audience. The series meets the second and fourth Thursdays at 7:00 pm in the UUCP Sanctuary through April. The suggested donation is between $5 and $10. Timothy J. Schmaltz, Director of the Center for Spirituality and Ministry in the Marketplace, will discuss and answer questions regarding Approaches to Practical Citizen Activism and Social Justice on April 14. Mr. Schmaltz is the coordinator of the Protecting Arizona’s Family Coalition, a historic and diverse alliance of social and health agencies, faith based groups, and community organizations dedicated to protecting and increasing health and human services funding and setting an agenda of tax reform. The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Phoenix is located at 4027 East Lincoln Drive in Paradise Valley. For more information about the series, please contact Kim St. Clair, Director of Religious Education, at (602) 840-8400 or visit www.phoenixuu.org. |
Church Picnic—April 24th after Church! We’re planning a picnic at the park just a block West of the Church on Sunday, April 24th immediately following the Sunday Service. This event is being co-sponsored by the RE committee, Membership Committee, and Finance Committee and should be fun for everyone. There will be barbecued burgers and hot dogs, games for the kids, and of course that good UU conversation that always accompanies our luncheons. Please plan to attend and bring the whole family. |
