Spring 2008

One enthusiastic method for killing weeds

Spring

has definitely sprung.

It’s a subtle change for newcomers. Our February feels like spring to people who are used to sub-zero temperatures on Valentine’s Day. But we old-timers can tell the difference. The skies are bluer, kids are rowdier, and the weeds are definitely greener.

We had a series of wet, chilly Sundays this winter. Great for the flora, but the fauna was a bit claustrophobic…. It’s wonderful to be able to get outside to play again.

On March 9th, Deb Richards and I are going to be helping the kids make Giant Easter Eggs out of balloons and yarn and gooey stuff. So kids: don’t wear anything that can’t get messy.

Also, I thought I’d pick up a couple kites to fly during coffee hour. If anyone else wants to bring one, that would be fun.

On March 16th, kids will be planting in the garden – another dress-down day.

Then comes Easter. Plan on an Easter Egg Hunt after church.

And the week after that, we’ve got our annual Church Picnic… watch for more news about that later.

Stan Wen teaches a class on Medicine and Unitarian Principles.

As part of this unit, the Eagles learned how to handle basic medical emergencies.

They also learned about constellations and made cup and string telephones in February.

Meanwhile, Blue Jays learned that our hands are God’s hands and that wolf orphans need love and kindness, too.

Older kids learned about Socrates, Spinoza and Thoreau.

We are already beginning to plan for next year’s RE program. What kind of activities do we want to have?

Watch for news and planning meetings in April’s newsletter.
